Training and Consulting

GAAP Consulting has the names in financial and auditing to provide superior in house training outcomes, and external speaking engagements in Australia and internationally. Quarterly, half-yearly or annual tailored training and briefings on contemporary financial reporting and auditing developments can be arranged to meet your in-house training and strategic needs. 

These courses are designed and delivered by GAAP Consulting, and our network members. GAAP Consulting and our alliance partners are also available for consulting assignments on financial reporting, auditing and corporate governance.

GAAP Consulting team is authoritative, insightful and skilled at engaging participants. The names are:

  • Greg Pound
  • David Sauer, and
  • Stephen LeGreca.

We have current members of the Australian Accounting Standards Board and Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, registered company auditors, with extensive experience in private and/or public sectors (including listed companies). 

All have written extensively on financial reporting and/or audit. They are exceptional trainers having presented 100s of training sessions, as well as being frequent presenters for the accounting bodies and seminar organisations.

Colin Parker B. Bus., FCA, FCPA and MAICD is the founder and Principal of GAAP Consulting, and acknowledged expert in financial reporting and auditing. He is a member of the AASB; and his representation activities have included: Chairman of ICAA Audit Advisory Committee; independent Audit Committee member of the City of Darebin; member of the Urgent Issues Group; member of the Consultative Group to the AASB; and adviser to several the Task Forces of the Accounting Bodies.

Colin has held several senior positions: Head of Accounting and Auditing Policy – Stockford Ltd; Director – Accounting and Audit with CPA Australia; Senior Technical Manager – Ernst & Young; Corporate Development Director – Centre for Professional Development; Technical Director – RSM Bird Cameron; Senior Manager Audit Standards – AARF; and Group Audit Manager – PKF.

Colin has written over 200 published articles, co-author of ‘Australian GAAP’ (9 editions), author of Australian GAAS 2007 Checklists, ‘e-GAAP Update’ subscription service and GAAP Alert bi-monthly newsletter.  He is a popular speaker and trainer on financial reporting and auditing issues having made over 200 presentations; and Press, Internet and video commentator on contemporary financial reporting, auditing and corporate governance issues. He also made 100s of internal presentations for accounting firms.

Jim Dixon MBA, B. Comm., B.Ed, FCPA, is an Associate, GAAP Consulting. Jim has extensive experience in advising on financial reporting gained from working with entities and agencies across both the private and public sectors. Jim’s most significant recent challenge has been to address accounting and auditing issues arising from the implementation of AIFRS across the Victorian Public Sector. An important part of this work has been to advise and train staff within the Office of the Victorian Auditor General (VAGO) on the many aspects and issues arising from the implementation of AIFRS.

Prior to VAGO, Jim provided advice and training across a wide range of private sector businesses while holding the positions of Technical Director of CPA Australia, Technical Director Pitcher Partners, and as Senior Manager Research for the National Australia Bank. Jim is a frequent speaker on contemporary financial reporting issues and has conducted numerous in-house training sessions for VAGO and Pitcher Partners.

Recent representation activities include: member of the AASB’s Advisory Committee on Accounting for Service Concessions by Grantors; representative of Australasian Auditors General to the AASB; member of Financial Reporting and Auditing Committee of the Australasian Auditors General; and member of the UIG.
 

Our Network Members

GAAP Consulting has three independent network members to draw upon to deliver in-house professional development and other consulting assignments.

Greg PoundGreg Pound B.Ec (Hons), M.Ec, FCA, FCPA, FNIA is an independent consultant on auditing and accounting matters. He is a member of the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, and has also been a member of the Financial Reporting Council. Greg is currently working with ASIC on audit related projects, and also has a part-time position as Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Monash University.

Greg has also worked with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu as Director – Regulatory Affairs.  Prior to working as a consultant, Greg was Chief Accountant at ASIC and has also held the position of Assistant Auditor-General, Accounting and Auditing Policy at the VAGO. He was for many years Director – Auditing Standards at the AARF. Greg has a large number of publications in academic and professional journals and has been a member of a numerous professional and academic committees and panels.

David SauerDavid Sauer B. Comm., CPA and Registered Company Auditor, is the principal of David Sauer & Associates, specialising in technical accounting, audit and compliance. His services include the design and delivery of professional development that have provided across Australia for 18 years.

David’s professional activities have included: alternate member of the UIG, member of AASB Consultative Group, and member of the ICAA’s Victorian Accounting and Audit Committee. He has conducted numerous presentations for ICAA and Thomson & Regulatory; and also directly to listed entities, professional practices and industry groups. David has also authored several guides on financial reporting and compliance matters. His training services are appreciated because of his relaxed session delivery combined with his understanding of the accounting issues and needs of a wide range of entities.

Stephen LeGreca, B. Comm., CA, GAICD, is an independent consultant. His clients include: St. George Bank which has included advice on capital management, Basel II, and conversion to AIFRS; Rubicro Group Limited assistance with financial reporting and corporate governance requirements; and ICAA including preparation of web content on AASB 139 in particular loan and receivables provisioning and hedging (guidance on cash flow and fair value hedging).

Previously, Stephen was an audit partner BDO (then BDO Nelson Parkhill); including Chairman of the Sydney office Technical Committee that was responsible for training on accounting standards and auditing practice. He was also Director of Technical Services whose responsibilities comprised professional development, maintenance of audit manuals and associated documentation, preparation of newsletters for internal and external, and provision of advice on audit and accounting matters.

Stephen was also National Director of Assurance Services and Australian representatives to the BDO International Accounting and Auditing Committee. His audit clients have included: Woolworths Ltd, TMP Worldwide, Morgan & Banks, Cashcard Australia Ltd, and St. George Bank/Advance Bank Ltd.
